Introduction

The Redtick Coonhound, popularly known as the American English Coonhound, is a breed of hunting dog that was developed in the Southern United States. In 1905, it was recognized by the United Kennel Club.

Redtick CoonhoundHunting Style

The Redtick Coonhound is known to have excellent hunting skills with the help of their ability to track small and large game, which include bears, cougars, foxes, and racoons. One of their hunting ways is treeing, where the hunting dogs are used by hunters to chase animals and force them to climb up trees where they are easily seen and shot.

Trainability

In contrast to their active and energetic hunting attitude outdoors, Redtick Coonhounds are relaxed and gentle when they are at home. Redtick CoonhoundThey are also playful with children and sociable with new people. However, their natural pedigree does not stop them from smelling anything fishy, and this is what makes them suitable watchdogs. With proper training and socialization, they can become ideal companions that can protect the family during times of danger. Just like any other dog breed, they are also sensitive and intelligent. This means the training approach should be on the positive side. You can start by training them on ways to respect you.

Redtick Coonhounds are also loyal pets and are very good with children. More so, they are sociable and strong-willed hunting dogs.
